To start this wonderful day mountain biking tour around Maras Moray and salt mines, we will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am. and drive 45 minutes to arrive in Cruz Pata (it is a part of the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour route) where we will start the bike tour.
We will pass by a local farm and small villages where the local people are doing their daily life, after 1 hour and a half of riding we will arrive at Moray, a unique archaeological site in the region.
It consists of enormous depressions or holes in the surface of the ground, where Incas built gigantic terraces to use as a center for agricultural experimentation.
What is surprising is that the average annual temperature is different between the top and bottom.
After visiting Moray we continue towards (DownHill) to the northwest of the village Maras and arrive at the famous “Salt Mines“.
The “salt mines” consist of about more than 4000 small pools with an average surface of 5 m², built on a slope of the mountain “Qaqawiñay”.
People fill or “water” the pools with saltwater emanating from a natural spring located at the top of the complex, then we continue to Urubamba, where we take a transport service to return to Cusco (6 p.m.).
The biking tour around Moray is one of the best options to acclimatize your body, it is highly recommended doing physical activities before traveling to Machu Picchu by train or for longer adventures such as the Inca Trail, Salkantay Trail or lares trek to Machu Picchu.
